Imagine the Kalahari Desert and two features come to mind - sensuous, curvaceous, magical red sand dunes and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Sunk into one of the Park's dominant sand dunes, with endless unspoilt views of the red Kalahari sands stretching to the horizon, is a unique self-catering wilderness camp called Kieliekrankie Wilderness Camp.
Forty km north of Twee Rivieren, off the Mata- Mata route, and not a sign of civilization anywhere nearby, this has to be the perfect place to unwind. The dunes upon which Kieliekrankie Wilderness Camp is situated form a natural amphitheater and various animal trails can be seen following a waterhole to its centre.
Apart from the solitary Shepherd's tree nothing clutters the surrounding space. This camp is a spot where you can kick back and soak up the ecosystem and at the end of each day when the barking gecko ruptures his evening serenade, it`s so peaceful that you can hear shooting stars dance through the sky.
Kieliekrankie Wilderness Camp is unfenced, allowing the great outdoors to approach indoors. The camp's attraction lies in its simplicity and guests have to provide their own drinking water and firewood, there is no electricity and therefore no air-conditioning, overhead fans and lights are solar-powered.
Accommodation at the Kieliekrankie Wilderness Camp consists of Dune Cabins overlooking the enchanting dunes with fully equipped kitchens, bedrooms with two single beds, and bathrooms with showers. The rustically furnished wooden deck is a great characteristic of this wild & natural camp.
One can light a fire in the barbecue, sit back and absorb the peaceful surroundings & wait for the evening's show to begin. In the sand below the deck, pawprints reveal the wildlife activity that could come your way under the cover of darkness...
