At 3.6 million hectares, Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park is a proud wildlife sanctuary to 60 mammal species, a variety of reptiles and 264 bird species, resilient foliage and thousands of miles of red sand. Dignified and ancient, stunning all over, home of the desert lions & the beloved "Little People" of the Bushmen, the Meerkats, Kgalagadi certainly smiles.
Characterized by curiously named water holes, red dunescapes, dusty green Acacias and the gnarled white stems of shepherd trees with their verdant green leaves. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is one of Africa's greatest parks and also one of the very few conservation areas of this magnitude left in the world.
Hidden away within this colossal Park, in the Mata-Mata region of the park, between the veil of old camel thorn trees, overlooking the Auob River is the rough and rustic Urikaruus wilderness camp. This camp is not fenced which makes the Park so unique and a great way to really get in touch with the enduring magic of the Kalahari.
Something to remember when you spend time in this camp and it gets to braai time, is to keep an eye on your meat - a pack of cheeky black-backed jackals tend to cruise the camp from around sunset, looking for anything to devour.
The raised tin units at Urikaruus Wilderness Camp are equipped for cozy self catering accommodation with cutlery, cooking utensils, linen, fridge/freezers and gas and solar power.
Riverside Cabin - 1 bedroom with 2 single beds, Barbeque facilities on deck
Equipped kitchen with Gas fridge / freezer, Wc and shower.
Guests can partake in exceptional Game viewing, 4x4 Trails and Loops at Urikaruus Wilderness Camp.
