Experience and camp amongst the wildlife of two countries simultaneously at the Kgalagadi, which is the merger of two great African parks; The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park found in the northern cape of South Africa and Gemsbok National Park in Botswana. The park spreads over a lavish 38,000 kmē and straddles the border between Botswana and South Africa. The Kgalagadi is one of the last conservation areas of this size left in the world.
So what should you expect from a park of this magnitude? Imagine scarlet sand dunes, desert serenity and herds of animals such as; springbok, gemsbok, eland and blue wildebeest. Breaking the silence you can hear and have first hand encounters with the notorious black-mane lions of Africa, and witness majestic leopards in their natural habitats. If you have bird fetish, the Kgalagadi will offer you a close up encounter with a selection of birds of prey. Water holes and other conveniently located gathering spots offer exceptional photographic opportunities.
With regards to accommodation, the Kgalagadi offers a diverse amount of wilderness camping styles, from the Bitterpan and Grootkolk wilderness camps to the unfenced Gharagab camp. Irrespective of the time of year that you visit, ensure that you pack a sufficient amount of drinking water for your camping experience. It is important to note that the roads in the park are not sedan friendly, and it is advisable to drive through on a 4x4 instead.
