Kgalagadi’s magnificent red sand dunes are the monolithic setting for Grootkolk wilderness camp ? a huge getaway destination that is still relatively new within the greater scheme of the park, Grootkolk is both completely modern, and entirely fused with the spirit and atmosphere of its sister camps, the Kalahari tented camp and Bitterpan. Extremely comfortable, while maintaining a genuine sense of the bush surrounding it, Grootkolk wilderness camp truly is the best of both worlds.

Accommodation at Grootkolk is fully catered with linen, cutlery and crockery, as well as gas powered hot water and solar powered fans and lighting. Available units include two-bed Desert Cabins, lively units cooled by solar panelling and ceiling fans, with fireplace heating. Kitchens and barbecue areas are both communal, and the unit also comes with a gas fridge-freezer combination, as well as gorgeous verandas. One of these units is also wheelchair accessible.

Grootkolk facilities include a laundry service, an on site bar, and a swimming pool.

Game drives and guided walks are provided by the camp, coordinated and supervised by a team of highly trained and informative professionals. 4 x 4 trails allow guests to take supreme advantage of the area's rugged sand dunes in true style.

Kgalagadi park is home to an extensive range of dry-land-condition wildlife, including gemsbok, cheetah, giraffe, eland, Spotted Hyena, springbok, lion, Red Hartebeest, and Short-Tailed Gerbil. Arguably more notable to the area is the park’s huge 280 strong indigenous bird population, including Tawny and Black-breasted (chested) Snake Eagle, Gabar Goshawk, Pale Chanting Goshawk, bateleur, Greater Kestrel, White-backed and Lappet-faced Vulture, and Pygmy Falcon.
