The semi desert conditions prevalent in the northern regions of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park are laid out in stark contrast to the blue skies above: red, bright and desolate, with sparse dots of hardy vegetation sprinkling the landscape, and, constructed so as not to impose on this gorgeous setting, the homely Gharagab wilderness camp. Private and quiet, this camp is a wealth of authentic wilderness atmosphere, rustic character, and some of best opportunities to relax in the slowly darkening twilight and feel the desert come alive.

Gharagab wilderness camp provides accommodation in four elevated log cabins, sleeping two each, and with fully equipped kitchens, gas fridge-freezer combination, braai (barbecue) facilities, stunning deck areas, and solar powered lighting.

Activities including exceptional game viewing are conducted and coordinated by a series of highly skilled and informative guides, with rugged 4 x 4 trails and walking loops snaking in, out, and around the Gharagab Wilderness Camp site being available to guests of the camp specifically. Urikaruus also provides numerous fine facilities, including a full laundry service, an on-site bar, and braai (barbecue) areas , as well as a swimming pool.

Kgalagadi park is home to an extensive range of dry-land-condition wildlife, including gemsbok, cheetah, giraffe, eland, Spotted Hyena, springbok, lion, Red Hartebeest, and Short-Tailed Gerbil. Arguably more notable to the area is the park’s huge 280 strong indigenous bird population, including Tawny and Black-breasted (chested) Snake Eagle, Gabar Goshawk, Pale Chanting Goshawk, bateleur, Greater Kestrel, White-backed and Lappet-faced Vulture, and Pygmy Falcon.
