Enveloped by the wide reach of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park, Bitterpan Stilted Wilderness Camp is a truly secluded and beautiful retreat from other often noisy and, at times, too built up bush destinations. The camp itself is accessible by 4 x 4 vehicles only, and left completely unfenced and open to the park around it. Wistful adjoining walkways give the camp a romantic and intimate experience, and it is here that guests have the opportunity to soak in the character and atmosphere that makes a place such as Bitterpan Stilted Wilderness camp an honest, unique and beautiful camp.

Accommodation at Bitterpan is offered in four reed cabins, units incorporating two single beds each, as well as communal kitchen and braai(barbecue) areas, and access to a gas fridge-freezer combination. Bitterpan units are all wheelchair friendly, lighting is supplied via solar panelling, and cooking and hot water are both gas powered.

Activities at the camp include lectures and slide show screenings relating to the local ecology and wildlife, coordinated holiday programs, night drives and day walks, and 4 x 4 trails and loops, stopping at various interesting sites and points around the park. The camp also includes facilities such as a picnic area, and a swimming pool.

Kgalagadi park is home to an extensive range of dry-land-condition wildlife, including gemsbok, cheetah, giraffe, eland, Spotted Hyena, springbok, lion, Red Hartebeest, and Short-Tailed Gerbil. Arguably more notable to the area is the park’s huge 280 strong indigenous bird population, including Tawny and Black-breasted (chested) Snake Eagle, Gabar Goshawk, Pale Chanting Goshawk, bateleur, Greater Kestrel, White-backed and Lappet-faced Vulture, and Pygmy Falcon.
